My recent work experience

Hi welcome back onto my blog once again.

I wanted to do a blog about my work experience that I recently completed and how it helped me to evaluate my point of view about being disabled in the working world.

I did a 3-day placement at a well-known company which was set up by a disabled charity called Whizz- Kidz and my mum, I was able to achieve a few hours a day over a course of 3 days.

During my placement, I was supporting staff on the front desk and welcoming customers into the showroom. This allowed me to be professional but really allow myself to work hard on sounding clear and ensuring myself that I was understood - remembering all of my good tips to get my message across clearly.

It felt good to be in a work environment in a busy, professional company. It took staff and customers a while to realise I am reliable and was able to help, as some people just smiled and spoke to the person who was on front of house with me, but this got better as the three days went on and people started to recognise me as someone on the front desk.

The best thing I enjoyed doing whilst on my placement is filling out the document that told people in the back office that a customer or a client has arrived for their meeting or to speak with them. This made me feel important and independent.

My point of view of working when you are disabled, yes it is difficult knowing that you can't do any job you set your heart on but there are loads out there when we really think and work really hard for what is best for you.  My thoughts before doing my placement were would I be able to do what they expected because of my disability but I was able to help with tasks that the company has to do every day.

Doing my placement gave me a lot more focus on what I need to do and how I need to be more organised in life. It’s made me that is might be difficult having a disability sometimes but people with disabilities can do most that they dream to do and dream is to be able to work!

I hope you enjoy reading my blog
